3 Keys to gaining a better perspective

Perspective is key when it comes to seeing your situation with a different mindset.  The higher you go the smaller your problems and unwanted circumstances become. – Adonis Lenzy

1) Don’t Focus on the problem.
When we focus on the problem then that is all we see and that can be overwhelming. For example, the other day my wife’s SUV started having problems. We took it to the dealership and long story short they quoted us a bill of $2500 to fix it. I must admit, I was a little overwhelmed. All I could think of was the $2500 it was going to cost us. I was troubled in my mind for two whole days. Then I had to rise above the circumstances and that’s when I got a different perspective. Instead of complaining that it was going to cost that much, I all of a sudden became thankful that we already had the money in an emergency fund thanks to following the principles of Dave Ramsey. Once again perspective changed my outlook. And to top it off, the dealership called after that and said my vehicle was ready at no charge. They ended doing one more diagnostic test and found a simple solution and since we were great customers they fixed it for free.

2) See the problem as an Opportunity.
Don’t freak out and be overwhelmed by your circumstances. Be ready to seize the moment and create an opportunity to change the perspective. The other day I saw a youtube video of a violinist performing at a recital. Towards the end of his performance, someone’s cell phone went off with a ringtone that was totally polar his performance. He paused for a second and then finished his performance by reproducing the ringtone that he had just heard. With 300,000 views later I would say that he got above his circumstances and seized an opportunity.

3) Find a mental picture that can quickly help you regain your Perspective.
I keep pictures of my wife and child on me at all times. They’re in my wallet, cell phone, ipad and laptop. No matter who calls me on my cell phone, the picture of my wife and son is the only picture that appears on the screen. Whenever I am faced with a circumstance that tries to weigh me down then all it takes is one look at their photo and instantly I’m soaring above my present situation. They are truly my “Window on the Airplane”.
